Shoei Visor CWR 1

Overview of available SHOEI visor tints

The characteristics of the different visors and their tints are an important and interesting topic. Using the new SHOEI model "RYD" as an example, we want to take a closer look at the CWR-1 visors in their different versions.

The CWR-1 visor can also be used on the NXR and X-Spirit III models. Unlike the racing visor CWR-F, it is also slightly curved vertically. Particularly mirrored visors ("Spectra") can scratch if handled insensitively, thus creating unwanted glare.

Especially for helmets without an integrated sun visor, the various tints provide effective protection against excessive sunlight. The light-sensitive "Photochromatic" visor, which adapts its tint depending on the light conditions and thus becomes a true all-rounder, should be mentioned here in particular.

A suitably tinted visor can even enhance a helmet design visually – a factor that also plays a role for many.

The currently valid ECE R 22/05 helmet standard requires a light transmission of at least 80% for visors if they are to be used around the clock without problems. Visors with a lower light transmission of 50-80% receive the addition "For daytime use only", meaning they are only suitable for use during the day.
